If you absolutely want to go into some kind of recording program I would recommend something that is alongside a music degree, or having recording as a minor while you learn something like electrical engineering or computer science. Resumés with those types of programs on them are more likely to be thrown in the garbage.

I have a friend who got an online "music production" "certificate" from Full Sail and this guy has never even set foot in a real studio. I would also highly advise against giving any thought toward a program for "music production". I would highly advise against going into any programs that are just recording. Will you be able to make a living? I can't say. Or worse, pushing carts at home depot occasionally recommending which wire to use for a speaker.Ĭan you learn at a audio production school? Yes. You're either in a unicorn position or your a subcontractor setting up media support at a convention center doing flat-rate all 12+ hour days. There are no "bank teller" type jobs in audio. Will that skill land you a life sustaining position and dependable opportunities going forward? Unfortunately, that's 100% on you. Will a program teach you a skill? Probably. There aren't tons of job listings out there. Being able to communicate directly is essential to effective learning. Being in a room with another person is so much more effective. Even if they do tell you what they're using, why and how. You're not hearing or seeing what the presenter is hearing and seeing in their environment. If you already have some experience and good instincts you can fruitfully study YouTube videos but those are a one way transaction. I'd definitely advise seeking opinions of people that laid their money down and went to school, both recently and in the past.
